How to extend your 60-day stay by 30 days in Thailand

If you entered Thailand with permission to stay for 60 days, you can apply for a 30-day extension before your current stay expires.

Where you apply depends on how you entered Thailand. Visa extensions must be completed in person.

Quick check: which Immigration office should you use in Bangkok?

Option 1

Visa-exempt entry or visa on arrival

Use this option if you entered Thailand without applying for a visa at an embassy, and received a stamp on arrival (visa-exempt), or you entered on visa on arrival.

Apply at: IT Square Laksi (Counter K)

Option 2

Tourist visa or e-visa issued before travel (embassy/consulate)

Use this option if you applied for a tourist visa or e-visa before travelling and you have an embassy/consulate tourist visa in your passport.

Apply at: Immigration Division 1 (Chaeng Watthana), Counter J

If you are unsure, check the visa sticker/stamp in your passport. It will show that your entry is visa-exempt or an embassy-issued tourist visa.

  • Passport copies, including:
    • Bio (photo) page
    • Current visa or entry stamp page

  • Your Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

Important preparation tips

  • Sign every copy using a blue pen.

What happens at Immigration

Once your queue number is called, you will submit your documents, pay the extension fee, and wait for the officer to process your application. Approval is usually granted on the same day.

Processing times vary depending on how busy the office but usually half a day.

Before you leave Immigration

Before leaving the counter, double-check that you have the correct passport and that the 30-day extension stamp is accurate.

  • Your name matches your passport.
  • The new expiry date is correct.
  • The stamp clearly shows the additional 30 days.

Any errors should be corrected immediately before you leave Immigration.

Overstaying your visa

Staying in Thailand beyond your permitted date without a valid extension can result in fines, deportation and may affect future visa applications.

Always apply for your visa extension before your current stay expires.

Final advice

  • Apply before your visa expires.
  • Arrive early to reduce waiting time.
  • Bring cash and all required documents.
  • Ask your hotel or landlord for your TM30 well in advance.
